Activities

The Canadian Martyrs Prayer Community holds various activities throughout the year. The following are some of the more common ones (for youth-related activities, see this page).

Prayer meetings are held every second and fourth Saturday of each month (unless otherwise stated in the calendar). For the adults, prayer meetings typically consist of praise and worship, fellowship, faith studies (including talks and video series), and sharing. The youth generally perform separate activities from the adults, and more information can be found in the youth activities page. Fellowship includes a potluck dinner right after praise and worship. These prayer meetings are held in the CMCC main hall, and they start at 7:30 PM.
Lenten recollections are held in the middle of the Lenten season, and are a good way to prepare for Holy Week. Guest speakers are invited to give a talk that reflects on a Lenten topic. These Lenten recollections are usually announced during mass a few weeks before they are held.
Sports fests are one of our recurring fellowship activities outside of prayer meetings, and are usually held a few times a year - it's a great way to stay both spiritually fit and physically fit. We'll typically book an indoor gymnasium where we can play various sports (e.g., basketball, dodgeball, volleyball, badminton, etc.). Please note that families usually split the cost for renting the indoor facility (the more families come, the cheaper it is for everyone), though exceptions can of course be made if somebody can't afford to pay.
Christmas parties are held annually, typically on Christmas Day itself (Dec 25), and is perhaps the event that many people look forward to the most every year. Lately, it's become a tradition to assign a theme to each Christmas party (e.g., the 2016 party was a masquerade; the 2015 party was a pyjama, wig, and throwback party; the 2014 party was cowboy-themed; etc.). There's food, games, performances, raffles, emcee videos, dancing, and in general, lots of opportunities for fellowship! Of course, amidst all this excitement, we cannot forget what we're actually celebrating - the birth of Christ - so we hold prayer sessions during the party as well (accompanied by a short speech from our parish priest).
Anniversary celebrations are also held annually, every June, which was the month the group was founded. These celebrations usally take the form of a picnic; however, we typically hold more formal celebrations during milestone years (e.g., the 10-year anniversary celebration was held in a hotel). Please check back in our homepage around April or May for additional information.
